CHIROPRACTIC

CHIROPRACTIC MEDICINE

Chiropractic care is a non-invasive, hands-on health care discipline that focuses on the neuromusculoskeletal system providing diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints.

As primary health care professionals, we combine our in-depth knowledge of anatomy and body function with specialized hands-on clinical skills to assess, diagnose and treat symptoms of your injury. All of our Chiropractors are professionally certified and regularly participate in continuing education courses to study the most current treatments and techniques being adopted in our industry. Our practitioners strive to provide you with the unique skill set and proven treatment methods needed to successfully rehabilitate your injury.

At Etobicoke High Performance Health Clinic, our goal is to restore, maintain and maximize your strength, function, movement and overall well-being by treating the source of your pain rather than the symptoms.

ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE

ART is a form of soft tissue therapy that treats the entire neuromusculoskeletal system (muscles, ligaments, nerves, fascia). This hands-on technique involves movement of the particular area being treated while the practitioner releases any tension with specific direction of his/her contact. Active release brings oxygen/blood flow to the injured area to aid with healing mechanisms and breaks down to improve function of the neuromusculoskeletal system and to decrease pain.

It can help with conditions such as shoulder impingement, nerve entrapment, tension/ cervicogenic headaches, plantar fasciitis, to name a few.

For practitioners to be certified to use this technique on all areas of the body, they must have completed at least three intensive 24-hour courses.

ABOUT FUNCTIONAL RANGE CONDITIONING

There are 3 main goals when traning using FRC™ system and allare closely interrelated, and acquired simultaneously:

MOBILITY DELELOPMENT

Mobility refers to the amount of active, usable motionthat one possesses. The more mobile a person is, the more theyare able to maximize their movement potential safely, efficiently, and effectively

JOINT STRENGTH

While improving mobility and movement potential, the FRC™ system also acts to ‘bullet proof’ (or safe-guard) your joints so that movement can be executed safely.

BODY CONTROL

Training with FRC™ improves the function of your nervous system. This leads to a reduction of pain and injury, joint health and longevity, as well an increased ability to move freely and easily.

MASSAGE THERAPY

ABOUT MASSAGE THERAPY

Massage Therapy is an excellent treatment especially when combined with Chiropractic care and Physiotherapy treatment: The combination is superior in facilitating recovery from injuries and reducing stress and decreasing muscle stiffness or pain. A variety of massage techniques work the superficial and deeper layers of soft tissue to promote relaxation, circulation and assist in healing.

Prenatal massage is known to benefit pregnant women by alleviating pain and discomfort in all trimesters.

All of our therapists are registered massage therapists. Contact us today to book an appointment at Etobicoke High Performance Health Clinic.

CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT

CCMI CONCUSSION ASSESSMENTS, TREATMENTS & REHABILITATION

At Etobicoke High Performance Health Clinic our practitioners are certified with CCMI. Our n etwork acts as an extension of existing healthcare teams and medical doctors. From pre-injury multimodal baseline testing to treatment and rehabilitation, our trained practitioners offer accessible and timely care to support those impacted by concussions.

A thorough assessment and the right treatment approach can help patients and athletes safely recover from a concussion. Rest is no longer considered the best approach to concussion care. Early intervention of various therapies can significantly improve recovery following a concussion. CCMI trained healthcare practitioners can help patients safely return to learn, work and play.

Conditions treated include:

Return to Play

Return to play is a step-by-step rehabilitation strategy and concussion protocol including assessments and sport-specific activities to determine physical and cognitive recovery. Complete Concussion Management practitioners work with athletes through the stages of concussion recovery.

Return to Learn

Concussion symptoms can affect memory and concentration, which can impact academic performance. Return to learn helps students gradually return to mental activity and learning. Our practitioners offer personalized plans and provide updates to parents and teachers.

Return to Work

Return to work is a gradual program to reintegrate concussion patients back to work.

SHOCKWAVE THERAPY

WHAT EXACTLY IS SHOCKWAVE THERAPY?

Shockwave Therapy is a relatively new technology using high speed shock waves to treat chronic musculoskeletal problems. It is an intense short wave form of mechanical energy used to help breakdown scar tissue that is resistant to standard treatment protocols.

About Shockwave Therapy?

At Etobicoke High Performance Health Clinic we utilize the Storz Medical Shockwave Technology. This form of therapy is much more comfortable than traditional shockwave and works to accelerate the healing process in the body by stimulating the metabolism and enhancing blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue.

Strong energy pulses are applied to the affected area for short periods of time, creating micro-cavitation bubbles that expand and burst. The force created by these bubbles stimulates cells in the body that are responsible for bone and connective tissue healing.

In many instances, shockwave therapy is most effective in cases where the human body has not been able to heal itself on its own. The recommended course of treatment for therapeutic benefit using the Storz Medical Shockwave Technology is 3 treatments 1 week apart.

What conditions are shockwave used to treat?

Many conditions can be managed by more traditional therapies. More unyielding problems (such as those listed below) generally respond well to Shockwave Therapy.

Plantar fasciitis (heel spur syndrome), Achilles tendonopathy (tendonitis), Rotator cuff problems Shin splints, Bursitis, Trigger points, Jumper’s knee, Tennis and golfer’s elbow (epicondylitis)

SUMMUS LASER THERAPY

SUMMUS LASER THERAPY LEVEL 4

Acute or chronic, superficial or deep, laser therapy can help. By accelerating the healing process with increased circulation and enhanced tissue repair, laser therapy decreases inflammation and pain and treats a wide range of conditions including:
Tendonitis, Sprain/Strains. Bruising/Swelling, Headaches/Sinusitis, Rotator, Cuff tendonitis, Osgood Schlatter’s, Trigger Finger, Arthritis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Bursitis. Plantar Fasciitis.

During each painless treatment, laser energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation , swelling, muscles spasms, stiffness and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved.

ACUPUNCTURE

ACUPUNCTURE THERAPY

Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine sterile needles into specific points on the body to achieve a therapeutic effect. Acupuncture helps to control pain, reduce inflammation and swelling, increase range of motion, and normalize imbalances in the autonomic nervous system. Many conditions may be treated by acupuncture, including acute strains/sprains, chronic pain, nerve pain, and headaches.

All of our practitioners administering acupuncture have completed over 100 hours of training and education through their respective Chiropractic Colleges or the McMaster University Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Program.

ORTHOTICS

GAIT SCAN & CUSTOM ORTHOTICS

To begin, a Gait Scan analysis is used to help determine if an orthotic is warranted to help support and take the stress off the foot. Using this analysis, we are then able to create a personalized treatment plan to help alleviate your acute or chronic pain. This plan takes into consideration your choice of footwear and what you do in your daily life, in order to determine the best possible solutions.

Our treatment plans focus heavily on creating a custom foot orthotic to helping providing relief for painful foot problems or an injury. With enough functional correction from a Custom Foot Orthotic, the foots structure can be aligned to make walking, running, exercise and even cycling more efficient biomechanically.
