Key things to keep in mind:

Stay Hydrated!

Oftentimes headaches are caused by dehydration. We all know that feeling when we have busy days and forget to eat and drink but this certainly comes at a cost! Studies show that drinking water and staying hydrated is a great and easy treatment method for chronic headaches.

Reduce Eye Strain

Eye strain is a common cause for headaches and can happen to anyone! Using a computer, tablet, or even your phone for an extended period of time can cause your eyes to strain. Not having proper lighting when reading, like dim light, or even having an out-of-date glasses prescription will also cause eye strain and can lead to headaches

Avoid Caffeine

If someone consumes caffeine frequently they can often develop a dependency. Caffeine generally narrows the blood vessels in the brain, but when consumption is stopped the blood vessels enlarge and cause an increase in blood flow and added pressure to surrounding nerves. This results in what is known as caffeine withdrawal headaches. Additionally, caffeine is a diuretic which naturally induces fluid loss and in turn dehydration which causes headaches.

Reduce/Control Your Stress

This may seem like an impossible task in today’s world, but if you want to prevent headaches, finding a way to manage and/or decrease stress will benefit you. Avoiding overpacking your schedule can really help, or try and take some time to do yoga or meditation. Even doing an activity that you find relaxing or peaceful can really help improve a headache or prevent one altogether!
